Forgiveness in Eastern Teachings

By Claudia Carballal, MS, LPC-A, RYT.

What Happens When We Don't Forgive Someone Who Has Hurt Us?

When someone hurts us, it is our ego who hurts and we produce the energy of resentment. Our soul remains intact, but we forget the power of our force within which comes from spirit. To avoid the negative effects of the energy of resentment, we can do spiritual therapy, to regain the strength of our soul.

"In Eastern teachings, spiritual therapy, also called Japa, is used to heal emotional wounds. In Western terminology, we can call it spiritual counseling or energy healing."

Spiritual therapy starts with understanding that when our individual ego is hurt, this helps us grow. This is called "ego-erosion." A sharp-edged stone becomes softer and rounded as it comes down the mountains and rivers over the years. Similarly, we can take the fire that the pain and resentment produces and offer it to a higher awareness with the intention of letting go of negative energy and becoming smoother and wiser. Only with friction fire is created and fire is transformation.

Transform The Pain Into Growth

People tend to think that they have come so far or have done so much for someone that they deserve respect, love, and recognition for that investment. But life typically doesn't work like that. No matter how good we are or how much we have done, life will keep testing us and pushing us towards growth and evolution. Whatever happens in our life, it is to help us evolve.

The brain is an instrument that determines our degree of evolution. An evolved human being knows that nobody can make you feel a certain way or another. An evolved person takes responsibility for what happens and consciously practices forgiveness and letting go. This is possible when we live in awareness and in the light of knowledge.

Spiritual Therapy (Japa)

In Eastern teachings, spiritual therapy, also called Japa, is used to heal emotional wounds. In Western terminology, we can call it spiritual counseling or energy healing. Whenever there is an emotional wound, spiritual therapy is needed to prevent the lower human nature from creating the energy of sorrow and resentment.

Spiritual practices, like meditation, yoga, and mantra chanting, generate energy of a higher frequency, pulling us up towards our higher nature. Some people call it divine energy as it comes from higher levels of awareness, positive thoughts, and compassion. This is the reason why most religious and spiritual practices in the world involve praying, chanting, and connecting with the divine.

What Happens After Spiritual Therapy?

As you grow more into the higher energy practices, you may notice that you will want to start creating some distance between people and events that agitate your mind and create conflict. You will start enjoying more and more the company of like-minded people who are focused on awareness, peacefulness, and compassion in all their interactions and connections with others. Your soul will automatically start pulling you towards people who are knowledgeable and self-aware.
